Tilng Adhesive and Grout Information from Lanarkshire Tilers

We can bring a selection of materials specific to the job at hand

We have many team members with skills in various disciplines using different tiling adhesive, grout and tiles. Choosing the correct materials is a combination of ensure the design is met by marrying quality with budget.

Described below are some considerations.

Both the size of the room and tile sizes are essential in choosing the correct tiles, such as:

  • Small tiles are fantastic for tight spaces such as in kitchens, bathrooms and toilets
  • Although the use of big tiles can enhance the size of the room, giving the perception that the place is more extensive than it is.

The selected tiles can influence the ambience of the space as soothing or carefree?

  • Colours that blend well together are brilliant for a bathroom.
  • In your kitchen, something more energetic can be used, or you can even pick colours that contrast.
  • Another technique would be to use different colour grout.  Contrasting grout will highlight lines and the tile design, while a grout that matches the tile colour will give a subtle distinction.

The shapes and sizes of the place dictate the colours that can be considered.

  • Both dark and light colours can be used in a larger room.
  • But, in a small living area, light-coloured tiles are best to be used because it will make the place feel more significant.

    Composition and finishing

    • Choosing a matt or a polished finished has its pros and cons. Tiles easy to clean you would pick a glazed tile. A tile without a glaze, a natural terracotta tile, is susceptible to staining and would need a seal.
    • For a dark space, a gloss finish tile will work best as it reflects more light, as does a lighter colour.
    • Grouted areas can stain as well. So it is good practice to seal the grouted areas as well.

Finally, ceramic tiles are great for interior floors and have many choices for designs, but are not considered to be the best choice for external spaces as they are more absorbent. Our tliers have the experience of working with porcelain. Porcelain tiles are more easily broken as well as difficult to work with, but last longer because it is less porous. This important for high traffic areas and exterior.

What makes Tiling Adhesive and Grout so Important?

There are lots of diferent types of Tiling Adhesive and Grouts. Some are ready-mixed, others in powder form. While less complicated to begin using, the ready-mixed types are not as strong typically as the powder form.

You don't want to create the perfect job and find that your adhesive while being nice and simple to apply, is not up to the job of holding the weight or dealing with traffic.

Generally, ready mixed tiling adhesive is suitable for smaller areas using ceramic tiles. However, bigger tiles and porcelain tiles should always be fixed to the wall by a powdered solution. All floors need to use a powdered mix.

There are many different categories of tiling adhesives too. Some are quick-drying, some are more flexible, some reduced slip.
